from the photographer… “Northern Michigan can seem like it’s own little world – technically located in the Midwest, it’s unlike the other Midwest states in that it’s tucked between lush forests with coastlines along the great lakes that can sometimes mimic the feel of the ocean. I wanted to showcase the beauty of the place while incorporating the work of local artists to give some fresh inspiration to those planning a wedding in the area (or any area similar). So much of the inspiration from wedding websites come from large cities and metro areas where the resources (and venues) are endless – but when you’re located in a small town in “the middle states” it can seem a little daunting to try and create a beautiful, put-together wedding with the same few venues everyone else in town is using. I wanted to show those who might feel that way that it IS possible to create a magical, trendy wedding – by using the beauty of what’s special to your own town and the artists that dwell within it.”

“Northern Michigan naturally tips its hat to bohemian vibes, and as the artists involved each brainstormed what they wanted to create, it just led it’s way into an earthy boho shoot. With local farmer, Shailah of Rock River Farm, creating floral pieces from her farmed flowers, Nora of Moon Rae Cakes building a cake that seemed to match the forest and lake in one, and Emerson of Adorned Smithing Co. decking out the models in her one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry – paired with Melissa’s hair and makeup and the beauty of Little Presque Isle – it was a dream come true!”
